Activity 1 – PERISCOPE

Materials Required

1. Periscope Template
2. Mirrors
3. Glue drops

PROCEDURE

1. Fold the periscope along the creasing as shown in the video.
2. Now using glue drops paste the template.
3. Fix the mirrors on both sides using glue drops as shown in the video.

SCIENCE CONCEPT

A periscope is an optical instrument that allows the user to view objects that are not in direct line of sight. A periscope works on the Laws of Reflection which states that the light from the object falls on one mirror at a 45o angle from the object and is reflected. This reflected light then falls on another mirror and is again reflected until it reaches the human eye.

Uses of Periscope

1. Periscopes are used in submarines for general navigation and detection.
2. Periscopes are often used on battlefields to look out of trenches safely without exposing the observer’s body.
3. Periscope technology is incorporated in endoscopic technology.

ACTIVITY 2 – TREE TABLE LAMP

Materials Required

1. Foam Base.
2. Foam circular holder.
3. Foam Legs.
4. Electronic circuit.
5. Translucent sheet.
6. Stars sticker.
7. Pipe
8. Glue drops.

PROCEDURE

1. Fix the foam legs to the foam base on 4 corners using glue drop.
2. Fix the Electronic circuit to the pipe and fix it to the foam circular holder as shown in the video.
3. Fix the switch and battery to the foam base.
4. Connect the electronic circuit to the switch and battery as shown in the video. (check for the working of the LED).
5. Now take the translucent sheet and fold it as shown in the picture and paste it using glue drop.
6. To decorate the sheet – stick stars randomly on the translucent sheet.
7. Fix the translucent sheet to the foam circular holder as shown in the picture.
8. Switch on the table lamp.

SCIENCE CONCEPT

Electronic circuit forms an open circuit when it is connected to a switch and battery it becomes closed. When the circuit is closed electricity flows through the circuit and makes the LED glow.
