Activity 1 – SPECTROSCOPE

Materials Required

1. Spectroscope Template
2. DVD piece
3. Glue drop

PROCEDURE

1. Fold the spectroscope along the creasing and paste it using glue drop as shown in the video.
2. Carefully place the DVD piece below the eye slit and tape it using glue drop.
3. Now let the light fall on the light source and view it from the eye slit.

SCIENCE CONCEPT

Please Note : Spectrum is a band of colors.

Spectroscope is a device which is used to study and observe the spectrum of light. As you see through the eye slit you can witness different bands of color with different light sources where it breaks the light from a single material into its component colours the way a prism splits white light into a rainbow.

ACTIVITY 2 – ELECTROMAG ROTATOR

Materials Required

1. Copper coil.
2. Foam base.
3. Wooden base.
4. Wooden stand.
5. Sand Paper.
6. Safety pins.
7. Magnet.
8. Cell AA.
9. Activity board.

PROCEDURE

1. Fix the battery to the foam base.
2. Fix the safety pins on both ends of the battery as shown in the picture.
3. Take the copper wire and leave 1inch from the corner on both sides and make 4-5 windings as shown in the picture.
4. Remove insulation at both the ends of the copper wire using sand paper.
5. Now connect wires to the safety pins.
6. Place the magnet under the copper wire exactly 1.5cms and observe the copper coil.

Note

1. Place the foam base on the wooden base.
2. Make sure the insulation is removed properly at both ends of the copper coil.
3. Adjust the magnet so that the copper coil rotates on its own.
4. Make sure that the strings of the copper wire are straight and should not wobble.

SCIENCE CONCEPT

An electromagnet is a device used to generate a magnetic field with the help of an electric current. When electric current passes through the coil, it becomes an electromagnet. When we place a magnet near this electromagnet, according to the property of magnets, it will either attract or repel. So the coil starts moving.
