first order lever see saw
A pair of children should sit on the see-saw and play it. The same pair should play on the other see-saw as well.
What did you observe?
At the first one, one child can lift the other easily. While on the second one, it is difficult for one child to lift the other.
The science behind it :
The pivot of first see-saw is exactly at the centre. Whereas in the other, it is fixed eccentrically. The see-saw acts like a first order lever and the pivot acts like a fulcrum. When the fulcrum’s position is varied, the mechanical advantage gained also varies. Hence there is a difference in the energy spent to lift each other.
